The Vision for Data Exchange in California

California’s Data Exchange Framework (DxF) is a statewide agreement that aims to improve healthcare by facilitating the secure exchange of health and social services information between providers, government agencies, and social services programs.

The DxF’s goals are to:

  • Transform healthcare
  • Expand coverage
  • Advance equity
  • Improve connections between health and social services entities
  • Help providers understand a patient’s full health history
  • Provide safe, effective, whole-person care
  • Solve public health challenges
  • Be more flexible during public health emergencies

The DxF has the potential to advance patient-centered care by accelerating data exchange between providers, health plans, and social service organizations. For example, a bidirectional data exchange would allow providers to send and receive data within one platform, instead of logging into different tools or portals.

Exciting Developments in Health Information Exchange

We are thrilled to share that North Coast Health Improvement and Information Network (NCHIIN) has been awarded a significant grant to advance our local Health Information Exchange (HIE) initiatives and support our partners in meeting the Data Exchange Framework (DxF) requirements. One of the biggest undertakings will be an upgrade to NCHIIN’s Mirth Connect HIE software for enhanced data security and functionality.
