When making referrals in NC3, look for the handshake icon 🤝 and choose an electronic referral whenever it’s available.

Why choose the handshake?

• 🔁 Real-time status updates when the referral is received, accepted, or completed
• ⏱️ Faster connections — referrals go directly to partners actively using NC3
• 👥 Clear accountability — you’ll know who picked it up and where it stands
• 📊 Stronger data & collaboration — supports true closed-loop tracking across the network

🔔 Quick Reminder Before You Send a Referral

Before choosing a logged referral, please take a moment to:

✔️ Check the partner list to see if the organization is an NC3 partner
✔️ Look for the handshake 🤝 — if it’s there, an electronic (closed-loop) referral is available
✔️ Use a logged referral only when:

• The organization is not yet an NC3 partner (no handshake 🤝), or
• The organization does not accept email or fax referrals (broken link icon 🔗)

We’re currently seeing referrals logged when an electronic option was available, which means missed real-time updates and closed-loop tracking. A quick check helps keep referrals connected, visible, and fully tracked.
